Common Kingfisher froze mid-swim

Christoph and his sister had the ditch at the Kolkweg yesterday entirely for themselves, when the bridge class suddenly saw something blue under the still unridden ice. “I wanted to take a closer look,” says the boy, who immediately took his phone after his discovery. “The sun was still shining, so I was able to take a clear photo.”

The student, who himself said to be an animal lover, knew immediately that the bird could no longer be saved. “I thought it was pathetic,” he says. “But I’m glad he didn’t look so dead.” The latter is why Christoph is considering cutting out the bird and having it set up. That costs 165 euros with a professional preparer, his parents discovered. However, they do not yet know for sure whether they want to pay for it. ,,
